"Mix Tape" came to me like a rescue dog; a charming, bent canvas, covered in thick globs of housepaint, destined for the dumpster. I took it home, painted a horrible landscape over it, and let it sit for a few years. When I found it again I decided the landscape had to go. The transformation was quick, impromptu, and unlike my previous works. It was like a subliminal channeling of the doodles of my youth- I could immediately see ‘70’s influences; sci-fi elements, disco roller rinks... This piece came to dominate 2020 for me, establishing a clear direction going forward. Includes black wooden frame.

...a note about the back. See the photo. This canvas was originally stretched by someone else, a student, and the result wasn’t especially square. I’ve done my best to improve this by way of placing beams, pushing on the stretchers.
